Hardwood

Hardwood flooring brings natural character, warmth, and long-term value to a home like no other surface can. At Ram Clan Flooring, we install both solid hardwood and engineered hardwood, approaching each project with a clear understanding of how these materials behave and what they require to perform correctly over time. While solid and engineered hardwood share a similar appearance, they are structurally different products. Our role is to evaluate the space, subfloor, and conditions of the home to ensure the correct hardwood system is installed properly—protecting the investment and delivering a refined, lasting result.

Subfloor Preparation, Acclimation & Moisture Considerations

Hardwood is a natural material, which means it responds to temperature, humidity, and the conditions beneath it. Before installation begins, we evaluate the subfloor—whether wood or concrete—and address any factors that could affect long-term performance. Moisture management is a key consideration, particularly over concrete slabs and in areas with fluctuating humidity. When required, appropriate moisture-protection and vapor-control methods are incorporated to help stabilize the flooring system. Hardwood also requires proper acclimation before installation. Allowing the material to adjust to the home’s environment helps minimize excessive movement after installation and supports a more stable finished floor. These preparatory steps are essential to delivering a hardwood installation that settles properly and performs as intended.

Solid vs Engineered

Choosing between solid and engineered hardwood depends on the space, subfloor, and environmental conditions of the home. At Ram Clan Flooring, we guide this decision by evaluating the project conditions and matching the appropriate hardwood product to the environment in which it will be installed.

Solid Hardwood

Milled from a single piece of natural wood and is typically installed over wood subfloors. It offers timeless appeal and the ability to be refinished multiple times over its lifespan. Solid hardwood performs best in areas with stable indoor conditions, such as above-grade living spaces.

Engineered Hardwood

Constructed in layers for increased dimensional stability. This makes it well suited for a wider range of applications, including installations over concrete slabs and areas with greater temperature or humidity variation. Engineered hardwood delivers the appearance of solid wood with added versatility.

Nail-Down, Floating & Glue-Down Installation Systems

Hardwood flooring can be installed using several different systems, each selected based on the flooring type and subfloor conditions. Ram Clan Flooring installs all three systems and selects the appropriate method based on performance needs—not convenience.

Nail-Down Installation

Commonly used for solid hardwood and select engineered products installed over wood subfloors. This method provides a traditional feel and strong attachment but requires precise spacing to allow for natural movement.

Floating Floor Installation

Allows engineered hardwood planks to lock together without being fastened to the subfloor. This method offers flexibility and improved sound control when paired with the correct underlayment, while still requiring proper expansion allowances.

Glue-Down Installation

Bonds engineered hardwood directly to the subfloor and is often used over concrete slabs. Proper surface preparation and adhesive selection are critical to achieving a secure, long-lasting installation.

Finishing, Trim & Final Presentation

Finishing details are what bring a hardwood installation together. To create clean transitions between flooring and walls, we offer baseboard installation in the style selected by the client, along with the option of quarter round or shoe moulding where appropriate. These finishing elements conceal expansion gaps while enhancing the overall appearance of the floor. All trim work is installed with precision and finished using white or color-matched caulking to blend seamlessly with surrounding surfaces. Once installation is complete, transitions are secured, the work area is cleaned, and the floor is presented ready to be enjoyed. The result is a hardwood flooring installation that feels intentional, refined, and professionally executed from start to finish.
