Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring remains a popular choice for homeowners seeking a clean, modern look with strong value and durability when installed correctly. At Ram Clan Flooring, we install laminate as a complete flooring system, recognizing that its performance depends heavily on proper preparation, moisture management, and environmental considerations. Because laminate features a wood-based core, it offers excellent stability and a solid feel underfoot, but it also requires thoughtful planning to ensure long-term success. Our approach focuses on pairing laminate with appropriate spaces, conditions, and installation methods to deliver the best possible result.

Subfloor Preparation, Moisture & Sound Control
Laminate flooring performs best when installed over a dry, stable, and properly prepared subfloor. Since laminate is more sensitive to moisture than vinyl-based products, special attention is given to moisture conditions—particularly over concrete slabs and in areas where humidity levels may fluctuate. Laminate’s harder construction also makes it naturally noisier than LVP. Foot traffic, movement, and subfloor irregularities can amplify sound if the system beneath the floor isn’t designed correctly. To address this, we often recommend laminate products with integrated backing pads or the installation of a separate underlayment chosen specifically for the application.
moisture & sound
The right padding or underlayment can:
- Soften footfall noise and reduce echo
- Improve comfort underfoot
- Help absorb minor subfloor imperfections
- Support the locking system and overall floor stability
(Underlayment selection is not one-size-fits-all; it must be compatible with the laminate product and the subfloor conditions to ensure proper performance and warranty compliance.)
concrete slabs
Concrete slabs can introduce moisture through condensation or vapor transmission, even when they appear dry. Condensation occurs when warm, humid air meets a cooler slab surface, allowing moisture to collect at the floor level. Over time, this can affect flooring systems if not properly addressed. For this reason, we evaluate subfloors carefully and implement appropriate moisture protection when required.

Install
Laminate flooring is installed as a floating system, meaning it is not mechanically fastened to the subfloor. Planks are locked together to form a single, unified surface that responds naturally to changes in temperature and humidity. Proper layout planning plays a key role in both performance and appearance. Plank direction is selected to complement room flow and lighting while minimizing unnecessary seams and narrow cuts. Throughout installation, alignment and spacing are carefully controlled to maintain a clean, uniform surface across the space. Transitions and thresholds are incorporated where appropriate to allow the flooring system to move correctly across doorways, between rooms, and where flooring materials or elevations change. These details help preserve both visual continuity and functional integrity.

Finishing, Expansion Management & Final Details
Laminate flooring requires intentional expansion space to accommodate natural movement caused by temperature and humidity changes. Controlled expansion gaps are built into every installation along walls and fixed vertical surfaces. To complete the floor cleanly, Ram Clan Flooring offers full baseboard installation in the style selected by the client, along with the option of quarter-round or shoe moulding. These finishing details conceal expansion gaps while delivering a polished, cohesive appearance. All trim work is finished with white or color-matched caulking to blend seamlessly with the surrounding finishes. The result is a laminate floor that feels complete, comfortable, and professionally executed—balancing aesthetics, sound control, and long-term reliability.
